Special Announcement Structured Data to Be Deprecated by Google This July
Google has said it will stop supporting the Special Announcement structured data on July 31, 2025. This feature was first introduced during the COVID-19 pandemic to help organizations share urgent updates like health alerts or event changes right in Google Search results.
Google confirmed the change in its updated documentation, saying that after July 31, the Special Announcement structured data will no longer be shown in a special way in search results. Even if websites still use it, it won’t affect how their content shows up on Google.
Google is phasing out a feature that was originally introduced during the pandemic to highlight urgent updates. Since the need for structured alerts around health or emergencies has decreased, this type of structured data will no longer be supported.
If your site is still using the Special Announcement markup, Google recommends either removing it or simply ignoring it. It won’t hurt your site, but it also won’t offer any SEO benefit anymore.
This update is a good opportunity for site owners to rethink how they share time-sensitive information. Even though the markup is going away, it’s still important to find other ways to highlight critical updates and keep your content visible in search results.
