Google Tests New Link Box Feature in Search Snippets
Google is testing a new link box feature on search results that could shift the way users traverse content. The feature shows directly in the search snippet and, upon click, sends users directly to a particular section of the page — much like an anchor link.
Imagine it similar to an upgrade of featured snippets or “People also ask” links but this time as a tidy, clickable box in normal search results.
This experiment was initially spotted by Brodie Clark, who posted screenshots on X and SERP Alerts. While not everyone can view it yet, the images present a little arrow icon as an anchor link.
Hovering over the icon makes visible the precise HTML anchor the link points at.
This is what it looks like:
- Link Box Icon in Snippet
- Anchor Preview When Hovered
What does this do for publishers?
More search clickbait links could translate to greater visibility and more engagement for deep content — a SEO win.
