Copilot Search Officially Live on Bing
Following a low-key introduction earlier in the week, Microsoft formally announced the availability of Copilot Search in Bing late last Friday. The new feature is meant to combine the capabilities of legacy search with the capability of generative AI with an aim to make the search experience seamless throughout.
Microsoft explained Copilot Search as a feature that “combines the best of traditional and generative search to assist you in finding what you’re looking for—meeting you where you are on your discovery journey.” They also stressed their dedication to having a “healthy web ecosystem,” which translates to users still seeing links to other websites outside of your own.
While the feature leaked for the first time back in February, it is now completely rolled out to everyone.
“It is a meaningful next step in the evolution of search,” said Jordi Ribas, a Microsoft executive, adding that the update draws on lessons from Bing Chat, Copilot, and Bing’s previous generative search efforts.
