Google Introduces ‘Check Important Info’ Warning to AI Summaries
Google has introduced a new warning to its AI-generated search results — a notice that reads “Check important info“ — encouraging users to check important facts before relying on AI Summaries entirely. This is the latest step by Google to make users cautious when using AI-generated content, particularly for sensitive or high-stakes information.
I think this is Google being slightly more conservative about certain AI Overviews? I am not capable of duplicating this but Brodie Clark noticed this and wrote about this on X and on SERPAlerts.
Here is that screenshot:
What Is the ‘Check Important Info’ Notice?
The warning shows up on the bottom of certain AI Overview boxes within Google Search. It invites users to double-check facts, particularly when the topic is about health, money, legal counseling, or other major subjects.
This notice enforces the notion that AI overviews are useful, but not necessarily 100% correct, and should not substitute expert consulting or in-depth research.
When Does This Notice Show Up in Search?
Google has explained that the disclaimer does not appear in all AI Overviews. Rather, it appears when the subject matter being searched is deemed sensitive or susceptible to misinformation.
These include:
- Medical symptoms and treatment treatment
- Financial choices
- Legal advice
- Personal safety
- Emergency-related subjects
Conclusion
As Google keeps incorporating AI into its search functionality, it’s also ensuring users don‘t blindly believe what they see. The “Check important info“ alert is a tiny but significant step toward transparency and user protection. For brands, publishers, and SEOs, this indicates credibility, clarity, and helpfulness still top the list in the AI age of search.
